No matter what kind of family you’re born into, rich or poor, every bride out there is going to have some kind of  a wedding budget that they need to stay with. Wedding planning on a budget can be difficult, and sometimes hard to keep track of, but it’s so important. You see, many brides just rush headlong into planning a wedding without thinking and planning on just how much money they have to spend, they just hope that there is enough money in the end to buy everything that they want for their dream wedding. But wedding planning on a budget is important, and you need to take the time to make sure that you do it right. After all, who wants to spend months planning the perfect wedding ceremony full of fresh flowers and decorations, only to find that you have ten bucks left for a wedding reception? Wedding planning on a budget makes sure that you have money for everything that you have planned for your dream wedding, and it can help you from getting into trouble and making huge mistakes that could really cost you later. Lots of brides are looking for ways to stay in their wedding budget, and some of the ideas are huge money savers. Here is a list of my favorite tips for wedding planning on a budget.

Doing it Yourself

There are lots of different places in your wedding where a little the personal touch can make such a difference. But not only does a personal touch make a difference in way your wedding looks, but it can save you a lot of money if you are  trying to do your wedding planning on a budget. When you can do some of the smaller or more easier tasks yourself, such as place cards, printing wedding invitations or even making your own wedding favors, you can potentially save yourself hundreds if not thousands of dollars that can abe used elsewhere in your wedding planning.

Making a Wedding Budget

Like I mentioned before, wedding planning on a budget is hard but definitely important. So spend a good part of your wedding planning on creating and sticking to your wedding budget. Go and talk to your respective families to see if any of them are planning on contributing to your wedding,  or decide if you are going to be paying for it yourself. Many brides choose to get loans to cover the cost of their weddings, and if this is the route that you’re going, be so careful since starting off a new marriage with a bunch of debt can be pretty stressful. Then, once you have a number in your mind of what you have to spend, make a budget on what you are planning to spend on each area of your wedding, and be specific because there are lots of them. From a wedding dress, florist, wedding invitations, photographers, caterers, downpayments on recpetion and ceremony venues, wedding rings and more, you have a lot of expenses coming your way and you need to be smart about it. Wedding planning on a budget is serious business, but you can get it done well with some good planning and sticking to it.

I remember back to when I was planning my wedding, and all the stress that came along with it, and it makes me wonder why I didn’t pay closer attention to planning a wedding on a budget than what I should have done. Sure, I knew just how much I had to spend on our big day, and I’m pretty frugal anyway when it comes to day to day purchases. But for some reason when I was planning my wedding, I sort of turned into a spending monster. Planning a wedding on a budget was hard for me, and it didn’t help that I was completely unorganized about the whole thing. I knew that I still had money in the bank for my wedding, and didn’t see any problems with ordering a few little extras that just made me happy. But in the end, I didn’t watch  my money that closely and ended up going pretty far over my average sized wedding budget, and so I’m here to encourage brides who are planning a wedding on a budget not to get into the same fix that I got myself into.

Planning a Wedding on a Budget Takes Dedication

I don’t care who you are, living in a tight budget is hard, just like planning a wedding on a budget is hard, and I totally get that. Your wedding is the most important day of your life and sometimes you just want to splurge in a couple of areas to make it pretty and just what you’ve always dreamed of. But if you’re not careful, you can easily get sucked into the pictures of other bride’s dream weddings and get caught up in spending a lot more money than you were planning to spend. Sure, part of it is that wedding vendors are playing on the fact that you’re willing to pay more for items because it’s for your wedding day, but another part of it is just wanting everything to be perfect and beautiful. But know this, planning a wedding on a budget takes dedication and a firm standing on not breaking the budget for your wedding.

How to Stick to It

Of course, some brides have a larger budget than others when it comes to planning their weddings, but that doesn’t mean that a small budget is impossible or that your wedding is going to look tacky and cheap. There are lots of places to save money when you are planning a wedding on a budget that can really add up. Ask a friend to do your hair instead of paying a hundred bucks for a professional, make a couple of little things yourself instead of buying them from a professional. With today’s technology and software, you can do lots of your wedding necessities on your own home computer, such as your wedding invitations, wedding programs, place cards and more.

So like I said, when I think back to my own wedding and my nightmare with planning a wedding on a budget, there are some things that I would love to do differently. So in short, be dedicated to staying within your wedding budget, stay on top of it and keep organized to keep yourself from facing some unexpected debt or being strapped for cash. Happy wedding planning!
